While only the rare person enjoys spending time in airports (spoiler alert: I’m not one of them), we all know that long-haul flights are ultimately worth it once all is said and done. With some preparation and a bit of a strategy, it’s possible to be comfortable and even arrive rested. So, let’s dive into these tips that will make your international flight a breeze!

OUR TRIED + TRUE LONG-HAUL TRAVEL TIPS:

Tip 1: Wear Something Comfortable

When it comes to choosing your outfit for the flight, comfort is key. Opt for leggings or loose-fitting pants, a light shirt, a cozy sweater, and a pair of sneakers. Trust me, you don’t want to feel restricted when you’re trying to rest. Layering is also a great idea, as airplane temperatures can be unpredictable. And, don’t forget to wear socks to keep your feet warm and cozy!

Tip 2: Pack the Essentials in a Carry-On

Your carry-on bag is your best friend during a long-haul flight. Make sure to pack lip balm, a small tube of moisturizer, AirPods or headphones, and an eye mask to help you relax and get some shut-eye.

If you’re planning to work during the flight, don’t forget to bring your laptop and take advantage of the in-flight Wi-Fi. Remember to charge your phone before you board the plane to avoid any battery-related stress upon landing.

Tip 3: Pack Your Own Snacks

Let’s face it, airplane food is usually underwhelming at best. To avoid any disappointment, pack your own snacks. Prepare a simple sandwich that doesn’t require heating and won’t bother your fellow passengers with strong odors (please, NO TUNA!). Add some sides like carrots, pretzels, nuts, and fruit to keep you fueled throughout the flight. If you’re planning to sleep, avoid caffeine and opt for a soothing cup of tea instead.

Tip 4: Move and Stretch

Sitting in a cramped space for hours can leave you feeling stiff and uncomfortable. Combat this by getting up and moving around the cabin whenever possible. Take short walks up and down the aisle, stretch your legs, and do some simple exercises to keep your blood flowing. Trust me, your body will thank you!

Tip 5: Adjust to the Local Time

If you’re traveling across multiple time zones, adjusting your sleep schedule to the local time of your destination can help minimize jet lag. Try to sleep and wake up according to the local time during the flight. Don’t forget to adjust your watch as soon as you board the plane to get into the right mindset. If you need a little help falling asleep, consider taking natural gummies like magnesium or melatonin to ease your transition.

Tip 6: Choose the Right Seat

Choosing the right seat can make a world of difference in your comfort level during a long flight. If legroom is a priority for you, consider opting for an exit row or bulkhead seat. These seats offer extra space and can make your journey much more enjoyable. If you’re a light sleeper or easily disturbed by noise, try to choose a seat away from the restrooms to minimize disruptions.

Tip 7: Stay Hydrated

Remember, staying hydrated is crucial during a long-haul flight. Drink plenty of water throughout the journey to combat the dry cabin air and avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine, as they can dehydrate your body further. Consider bringing a refillable water bottle with you to the airport and fill it up after passing through security to ensure you have access to water throughout the flight.

So, what do you say? Pack your bags, put on your comfiest outfit, and get ready for a stress-free and comfortable journey. Bon voyage!
